Memory Supplements - Check With Your Doctor

Natural memory supplements may contain one or a combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc. A supplement not actually marketed as a "memory supplement" tends to be more natural and much less expensive then supplements whose advertising touts their memory enhancing abilities. There are supplements effective in helping short-term memory, as well as those more helpful with long term memory.

One memory enhancer is vitamin B1, also known as thiamin. Thiamin is crucial for blood glucose which produces a substance necessary for transmitting messages between nerves and is vital to memory and for concentration levels. Vitamin B1 supplements taken in the morning may lead to optimal memory and concentration throughout the day. Gingko Biloba supplements may be of help to those with poor concentration, memory loss and confusion due to aging. Whereas Gingko Biloba supplements may also improve short-term memory in younger individuals. A daily multivitamin and mineral supplement with the RDAs of iron, vitamin C, copper and folic acid may help with memory problems, fatigue, poor concentration and with daily tasks which require short-term memory retention. Other memory enhancing supplements include those containing rosemary, horsebalm, etc.

You should of course consult your doctor, instead of attempting to self medicate with memory enhancing supplements, if you experience the sudden onset of memory problems. With a doctor's ok you can then check for supplements at stores such as CVS, Rite AID, GNC and Walgreens. You can also purchase them online at the web stores for The Vitamin Bin, Supplement Express and Smart Bomb, to name just a few.
